UPDATED NOV 2015
We set across each other with our three year old in my arms, there was a tension inside of us I had never felt, this was not just another fight. There was a plot twist coming into my life and there was nothing I can do to stop it.
Now, over a year later, I can see how everything has been unfolding as if this whole time I’ve been watching someone else’s life-movie from a different angle.
Sometimes the things that are supposed to matter are not enough to get you out of this black hole you somehow ended up in. At this moment you just feel like sh*t and when you find yourself in that place you have every right to breakdown (but beautiful soul please never stay there).
“For every breakdown, there’s a breakthrough.”
When we find ourselves in a situation that has literally changed our life, we can choose to continue to do the same things we’ve done and/or even play the “victim card” for as long as you want but do remind yourself that if you choose this path at the end you will end up in the same or worst place you were before.
I decided to choose Love.
During this time I felt like I had nothing to lose and could take it as a chance to start over (not a chance to start over with someone else because let’s be honest that would never fix anything) but a chance to let love guide me. I decided since I was already in a very uncomfortable new chapter of my life, why not continue being uncomfortable!.
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE
I began to surround myself with women who understood, who could help and who cared. I decided to build my support group, to surround myself with like minded women.
It began by joining The Desire Map Book Club (by Danielle Laporte) nearest me. I then became active with the Dallas B-Schoolers. I surrounded myself with amazing women and each provided amazing value and support.
A couple of things that were brought into my life through the women I was surrounding myself with were:
- UPLEVEL, a beautiful program from two amazing b-schoolers which is no longer available, unfortunately.
- #wisdomdrops, vlogs full of life-tips and inspiration from one of my favorite gals in the entire world, Amanda Frances.
- Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts — The Book, during one of The Desire Map Book Club meet-ups, the ladies and I found ourselves sharing the names of other amazing books and that’s when her name came up, Mama Gena (Regena Thomashauer), this woman is a Goddess. Her book is a must read for every women who wants to learn how to use the power of pleasure to have their way with the world.
These are just some of the tools that I found myself coming across, while enjoying time with this amazing community I had attracted. It was just what I needed in that moment of my life. I was attracting the right help, support, their stories and I paid attention and took advantage of their love to heal my heart.
Before I go one more thing… One day I was listening to one of Lisa Nichols’ YouTube video (you can listen to the video here) she shared a particular moment she had with her grandmother and when I heard this for the first time it clicked! Her story just helped me see things differently.
Her words on the story:“There was a time my grandmother and I were sitting and my grandmother said, baby.. when you get my age, you’re suppose to sit in your favorite rocking chair and you’re suppose to tell the stories of your life. …You gotta tell these stories to your grand children and your grand children’s children… She said but when you’re your age… you’re suppose to go out and make sure the story is really good to tell“
Even though a broken heart is a broken heart, you can still see the beauty in life and allow everything that has happened to be part of your healing story… and make it a damn good story.
Surrounding yourself with the right people, it’s so important! But that is just the beginning to this amazing journey called self-love. I want to share with you the tools that helped me and my only hope is that they can help you in your journey too.
I encourage you to find support, find your tribe within your local community. In the next few posts I will share more tools and one in particular that saved me from that dark place.
